Rocketfish USB Headset Mic Problem

Hello, I purchased Rocketfish USB headset model: RF-GUV1201 and I am having trouble with the Mic on the computer. The headset works fine for receiving audio but the mic portion of it doesn't seem to work. I have double checked all the wires and connection, plugged it in different USB ports and read through countless forum threads looking for a fix. I am currently running Windows 7 on a desktop computer. When i run a mic test i can see low levels of audio jumping when the mic is plugged in and out of the headset. So even if the Mic isn't plugged in it is still giving feedback which I'm pretty sure is just static. I am looking forward to your answer and hopefully can resolve my problem. Thank you.

Re: Rocketfish USB Headset Mic Problem

[ Edited ]

I'm having a similar problem with the exact same headset. I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

I can get sound through the headset on PC when I also plug in the 3.5mm jack, but it actually says not to do that in the instructions for PC. So, when I use just the USB, it fails to install.

I notice that when I plug in the USB, it fails to install drivers and Windows doesn't really recognize it as an audio device. When I go to devices and printers, it shows up as Rocketfish Headset, but Windows claims it needs troubleshooting. I try to have Windows apply a fix and it fails.

I checked device manager and Rocketfish Headset shows up under "other devices" with a caution icon.

I tried all of my USB ports, including ones I know work. I tried going in to device manager, uninstalling the device, unplugging the USB, then plugging it back in. It fails every time.

There were no drivers supplied with my device and I can't find any online.

I got this headset with the intention of using the mic, mainly, and it doesn't appear to be working at all for me.

Re: Rocketfish USB Headset Mic Problem

Here's an update on my situation.

I emailed support, but have not yet received a response. It also didn't seem like there was going to be a response to this forum post, since the guy before me posted days ago. So, I called support today.

I spoke with someone who had me test my headset with my PS3. He wanted to test if I could get sound out of the headset at all. (However, I had already told him that I could get sound through the headset on the PC, as well, when I plugged in the 3.5mm jack. The mic is obviously not detected if that's all that is used. You need the USB.) But, I did what he said. I got sound out of my PS3, but the sound was under a loud humming/hiss noise.

He had me restart my computer, then he proceeded to walk me through the manual's instructions. Of course, I had already tried this. Obviously, we weren't going to make it through the instructions, since my device wasn't being recognized as an audio device by Windows and didn't show up under the playback tab in sound settings.

He asked me to scan for new hardware in device manager. I did, Windows attempted to install the drivers (like I explained to him to begin with) and it failed (like I said it had been doing). He said that's all he could do for me and that since they've been having trouble transferring people to higher level support, he was going to have me call the same number back, and that I should press option 2, isntead of 1. (I don't remember the categories.) He gave me a case number to reference.

So, I did what he said. I called back. What I received was essentially the same support, except the woman had a strong (French?) accent, which made the conversation a bit difficult for me to follow at times. She walked me through the manual, verbatim, and I did what she said, even though I knew it wouldn't work. I got to the same point and explained that it was not listed and Windows wasn't recognizing it as an audio device. She put me on hold a few times and finally said that there is no driver that they can give me for this device. In fact, she said that I should just return the product. It just wasn't going to work on my PC.

Both of the support technicians were very friendly on the phone. I really don't have a problem with how they handled the situation, apart from the first agent, who I think knowingly had me dumped back into a queue that was no more advanced than his own, if not the same queue altogether. The 2nd agent, the woman, was very nice and seemed to be genuinely apologetic.

I think the problem is that the Rocketfish Headset (RF-GUV1201) is just not a good product. It was not compatible with Windows 7, even though the box claims it is. On top of that, they have a support team that is not really trained to provide any kind of real support, apart from looking up the manual online. Nothing they suggested was something I couldn't find in the manual, all of which didn't work. Once they couldn't find it in the manual, I'm assuming they had nowhere to go. I don't know whose fault that would be (management?), but it needs to be taken care of.

I did as the 2nd agent said and returned my Rocketfish Headset (RF-GUV1201) and got a Logitech G330. It was $10 more, but it worked without any trouble at all and it sounds great.

Re: Rocketfish USB Headset Mic Problem

Hello Dreadnot925,

Due to the fact that you are experiencing feedback when the mic is unplugged, it is likely that there is a hardware issue with your unit. As a result, I would suggest taking it, along with the receipt, to the place of purchase to acquire service. The RF-GUV1201 has a one year warranty from the date of purchase.

Regards,
Zac
